Coronation Street and Emmerdale Times: ITV1's 8pm 'Power Hour', the 7am ITVX Drop and What Happens When Football Moves Them

Bottom line: Emmerdale is on at 8pm and Coronation Street at 8.30pm on ITV1, Monday to Friday. Both episodes are on ITVX from 7am the same morning. This week, though, neither soap airs on Wednesday 16 September.

What time is Coronation Street on tonight?
8.30pm to 9pm on ITV1, straight after Emmerdale. We checked ITV's own TV guide for each day of this week and found both soaps in those slots on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
| Day | Date | Emmerdale | Coronation Street | ITVX drop |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monday | 14 Sep | 8pm | 8.30pm | 7am |
| Tuesday | 15 Sep | 8pm | 8.30pm | 7am |
| Wednesday | 16 Sep | Not on | Not on | None |
| Thursday | 17 Sep | 8pm | 8.30pm | 7am |
| Friday | 18 Sep | 8pm | 8.30pm | 7am |
On Monday, ITV's guide has Millionaire Hot Seat at 7.30pm leading in and the drama Trigger Point following Corrie at 9pm.
What is ITV's soap 'power hour'?
It's the name ITV gave to the pattern it introduced in January 2026. In a press release on 5 February 2025, ITV said both soaps would move to 30-minute episodes, Monday to Friday, with Emmerdale at 8pm and Coronation Street at 8.30pm.
The same release set out the streaming side. In ITV's words, "Episodes will continue to drop at 7am on ITVX, before transmission that evening."
The result is ten half-hours a week between the two, all in one block. If you watch both, it's one hour to keep free, from 8pm to 9pm.
It's a neat block to plan around, and it also means a single live match can take out both soaps at once, as happens this week. That makes it easy to watch both, and easy to notice when a night goes missing.
What time do Corrie and Emmerdale come out on ITVX?
7am, on the day of broadcast. Both episodes are available from then, so you can watch the evening's soap hour on your commute.
ITVX's free tier carries ads; the paid Premium tier removes them. Neither changes the 7am release time.
There's another option people don't always know about. Both official YouTube channels have been posting full episodes: on Monday 14 September, Coronation Street and Emmerdale each put up that day's episode. Check your region before relying on it.

Why is Coronation Street not on tonight?
Football, usually. When ITV1 shows a live match in the evening, the soap hour is what gives way, and there's no other ITV1 slot for it that night.
This week it's Wednesday. ITV's guide lists Carabao Cup Live from 7.30pm to 10.25pm on 16 September, for Manchester United v Brighton in the third round, kick-off 8pm.
TV Guide UK's episode listings skip Wednesday for both soaps, and Digital Spy's Emmerdale previews run Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday only. The episode numbers carry straight on: Coronation Street goes from 11943 on Tuesday to 11944 on Thursday.
In other words, no episode is dropped. The story takes a night off and resumes at 8pm on Thursday 17 September. We'll have a separate explainer on Wednesday morning in our updates section.
Are Corrie and Emmerdale on STV in Scotland?
Yes. STV carries ITV's schedule in most of Scotland, and Emmerdale's official YouTube channel describes the show as ITV and STV's. On Wednesday STV also has the Carabao Cup match, so the same night off applies there.
Every episode this week is listed with subtitles and audio description in TV Guide UK. If you watch on ITVX instead, the 7am release is the same episode that airs at night, so there's no reason to watch twice. Next week both soaps appear on all five nights, including Wednesday 23 September.
Does ITVX still get an episode when the soaps are off?
Not this week. Because there's no Wednesday episode at all, there's nothing to drop on ITVX at 7am that day either. Thursday's episodes arrive at 7am as normal.
Where do I find this week's spoilers?
We've summarised the week, night by night, in this week's soaps, drawing on Radio Times for Coronation Street and Digital Spy for Emmerdale. Tonight's times across all four soaps are in tonight's soaps.
