If you've switched over at 8pm and found a football pitch, you're not imagining it. There's no Coronation Street or Emmerdale on ITV1 tonight, Wednesday 16 September.
Why is Coronation Street not on tonight?
ITV1 is showing live football. Carabao Cup Live runs from 7.30pm to 10.25pm, covering Manchester United v Brighton in the third round, with kick-off at 8pm. That takes the whole slot where Emmerdale (8pm) and Corrie (8.30pm) normally sit.
Three sources line up on it. ITV's own TV guide shows the match in place of both soaps; TVmaze's UK schedule has no Emmerdale episode today; and TV Guide UK's listings skip Wednesday for both.
Is a Coronation Street episode being missed?
No, and this is the part that surprises people. The episode numbering simply carries on. In TV Guide UK's listings Corrie goes from episode 11943 on Tuesday to 11944 on Thursday, and Emmerdale from 10658 to 10659.
So you haven't missed anything. The story pauses for a night.
Is there a Coronation Street episode on ITVX today?
No. ITV's schedule release says episodes "drop at 7am on ITVX, before transmission that evening", and with no transmission tonight there's no Wednesday episode to drop. Thursday's go up at 7am as usual.
When are Coronation Street and Emmerdale back?
Tomorrow, Thursday 17 September: Emmerdale at 8pm and Coronation Street at 8.30pm on ITV1, and both on ITVX from 7am. Friday is normal too.
