Why Isn't Coronation Street On Tuesday 6 October? England Take ITV1, Emmerdale Off Too

Bottom line: Coronation Street and Emmerdale are both off ITV1 on Tuesday 6 October. England's Nations League match against the Czech Republic has the channel from 7pm to 10.05pm. No episode is lost, and both soaps return on Wednesday 7 October.

It's the second Tuesday running. England played the away leg on 29 September and ITV cleared the same hour then, which we covered in why Emmerdale was off that night.

Why isn't Coronation Street on Tuesday 6 October?

Live football. ITV's own guide hands ITV1 to the UEFA Nations League from 7pm until 10.05pm, with kick-off at 7.45pm. Emmerdale's 8pm slot and Corrie's 8.30pm slot both sit inside that block.

We checked three places on Wednesday 30 September: ITV's TV guide for 6 October, TVmaze's UK schedule, which has no Coronation Street or Emmerdale entry that day, and Live Football on TV's list of ITV fixtures.

What's on ITV1 instead of Emmerdale and Corrie?

Is a Coronation Street episode being skipped?

No. The count pauses for a night. TVmaze numbers Monday 5 October's Corrie as episode 182 and Wednesday's as 183, and Emmerdale's numbers match.

So the week has four episodes of each soap, not five. By our tally, football has now taken three weeknights since Monday 14 September: Wednesday 16 September, Tuesday 29 September and this one. That leaves 17 episodes of each soap out of a possible 20 by Friday 9 October, if Thursday and Friday run as listed.

Is there a 7am ITVX episode on Tuesday?

Not a new one. Episodes reach ITVX at 7am on the day they air on ITV1, and TVmaze's streaming schedule shows no release for either soap on 6 October. Monday's episodes stay up to catch up on. The Corrie and Emmerdale ITVX guide covers how the morning release works.

When are Coronation Street and Emmerdale back on?

Wednesday 7 October. ITV's guide has Emmerdale at 8pm and Coronation Street at 8.30pm, behind Tipping Point: Best Ever Finals at 7.30pm. Monday 5 October is a normal night too, so watch that one before the gap.

Are EastEnders and Hollyoaks still on Tuesday?

EastEnders is. The BBC One schedule for 6 October lists it at 7.30pm, between The One Show and DIY SOS, and the episode is on iPlayer from 6am. Football on ITV1 doesn't touch E4 either, where Hollyoaks has its usual Tuesday slot at 7pm.

Is more football coming for the soaps this month?

Three dates are worth a look, and only one of them is settled.

• Friday 9 October: ITV1 has Greece Women v England Women at 5.30pm. TVmaze still lists both soaps that night, and ITV's guide doesn't reach Friday yet.
• Tuesday 13 October: the return leg kicks off at 7.30pm, but Live Football on TV lists the channel as "ITV TBC". If it lands on ITV1, that's a third Tuesday without the soaps. Not confirmed.
• Wednesday 28 October: Liverpool v Chelsea in the Carabao Cup, 7.45pm on ITV1. Both soaps are expected to be off.
